This handmade item is sand casted on the Navajo Nation. My aunt carves the spiral into a stone, pours the metal in. In order to get the silver out of the stone, the stone must be broken in half. This turns it into a one of kind piece. And in order to make another one this process must be done all over again using a different cast. Later she soders the Nevada turquoise before the metal cools. Her initials are stamped delicately on the back of each item.
The whirlwind is made out of sterling silver (925) and represents our lives and cleansing. We are the stone in the center at birth. The whirlwind is our life. It symbolizes the present and cleansing of each day, while on our paths. Out with the old, in with the new.
